How to identify: Official administrators have special badges (blue labels) and never DM you proactively. Any “support” that DMs you is a scammer.

2. Fake Project Scam

How to identify: Only get Telegram group links from the project’s official Twitter. Verify the group name matches the official one exactly.

3. Fake Airdrop/Investment Group Scam

Scammers establish “airdrop channels” or “investment groups” posting fake airdrop links or “mentor trading call” scams.

How to identify: There’s no free lunch. Any airdrop requiring you to pay first or connect your wallet is a scam.

3. What to Do If Scammed

If you’ve connected to a fake site and granted authorization:

If you’ve entered your seed phrase:

1. Immediately transfer all assets to a new address (generate a new seed phrase on a new device)

2. “Investment Group Mentor Calls” Scam: Join VIP investment group → “mentor” posts daily trading suggestions → you follow and lose → the “mentor” is actually working with the project team → they profit by taking the opposite position after their calls.

3. “Fake Project AMA” Scam: Scammers impersonate project teams in Telegram groups doing AMAs (Q&A sessions) → post fake airdrop links → connecting wallet results in stolen assets.

4. “Add Friend for Free Coins” Scam: “Add me as a friend for 100 USDT” → after adding, you’re directed to a phishing site → wallet compromised after connecting.

5. “Forged Exchange Announcement” Scam: Posting forged exchange announcements in Telegram groups → “Gate.io new event, free coins” → link leads to a phishing site.

6. “Fake Quantitative Bot” Scam: “Use my quantitative bot to earn automatically” → you give your API Key to the bot → the bot takes opposite positions causing your losses → scammers profit from fees and opposite trades.

Linguistic Patterns of Telegram Scams

Scammer rhetoric shares common identifiable patterns:

Urgency Words: “Limited time,” “Last chance,” “Immediately,” “Right now,” “Urgent”

Authority Words: “Official,” “Support,” “Admin,” “Project team,” “Team”

Lure Words: “Free,” “Gift,” “Reward,” “Double,” “Guaranteed”

Push Words: “Hurry,” “Don’t hesitate,” “Miss it and it’s gone,” “Only today”

When these word combinations appear → be highly alert → verify before deciding.

Systematic Telegram Security Protection

Don’t just identify individual scams — build systematic protection:

1. Group Settings:

• Disable stranger DMs (Telegram Settings → Privacy → Nobody can message you)
• Don’t allow anyone to add you to new groups
• Set group messages to only show admin posts

2. Group Selection:

• Only join Telegram groups confirmed via official Twitter/Discord
• Don’t join any “investment groups,” “airdrop groups,” or “trading call groups”
• Don’t join groups invited by strangers

3. Operating Principles:

• Don’t click any links in groups
• Don’t share any personal information on Telegram
• Don’t execute any trading operations on Telegram
• All operations should be done on the exchange’s official website, not on Telegram

4. Verification Process: After receiving any Telegram message:

1. Check sender identity (administrator badge?)
2. Check if the information is confirmed on official channels (Twitter/Discord)
3. Check for urgency framing (urgent = suspicious)
4. Check if it asks you to perform an action (action = suspicious)
