Ciclo de Mercado

Todo mercado — stocks, commodities, crypto, real estate — pass through four phases cíclicas. Este ciclo não é theory speculativa; é empirical observation validated across centuries de market data. Entender ciclo de mercado é entender o contexto que governa toda operação individual.

As Quatro Phases

Phase 1: Expansão (Markup/Bull Market)

Characterísticas:

  • Preços rising consistentemente
  • Volume crescendo
  • Volatility moderate (not extreme)
  • Sentimento: skepticism → optimism → excitement
  • Economic indicators improving
  • New participants entering market

IBOV markers:

  • HH+HL structure em weekly
  • Volume crescendo em rallies
  • Foreign investors flowing in (positive CMA)
  • IPO activity increasing
  • Media coverage bullish

Trading approach:

  • Buy pullbacks (HLs)
  • Trend following strategies
  • Long positions com trailing stops
  • Não sell prematurely

Phase 2: Topo (Distribution/Peak)

Characterísticas:

  • Preços still high mas momentum slowing
  • Volume high mas price barely advancing (effort vs. result divergence)
  • Volatility increasing (larger swings)
  • Sentimento: excitement → euphoria → complacency
  • “This time is different” narratives
  • Smart money exiting, retail entering

IBOV markers:

  • Buying climax volume
  • LH forming (first sign of trouble)
  • Volume diverging de price
  • IPOs at peak (late-cycle companies listing)
  • Magazine covers celebrating market

Trading approach:

  • Reduce long exposure
  • Tighten stops
  • Prepare short setups
  • Increase cash reserves
  • Watch for CHoCH bearish

Phase 3: Contração (Markdown/Bear Market)

Characterísticas:

  • Preços falling consistentemente
  • Volume initially high (panic), then declining (despair)
  • Volatility high (crashes, sharp rallies)
  • Sentimento: anxiety → panic → resignation
  • Economic indicators worsening
  • Margin calls, forced selling

IBOV markers:

  • LH+LL structure em weekly
  • Volume high em declines
  • Foreign investors withdrawing (negative CMA)
  • Defaults increasing
  • Media coverage bearish

Trading approach:

  • Short rallies (LHs)
  • Trend following short
  • Cash-heavy positioning
  • Wait para selling climax
  • Prepare buy list para Phase 4

Phase 4: Fundo (Accumulation/Bottom)

Characterísticas:

  • Preços low, lateral movement
  • Volume low (disinterest)
  • Volatility declining
  • Sentimento: resignation → apathy → disbelief (“market will never recover”)
  • Smart money accumulating quietly
  • “Death of equities” narratives

IBOV markers:

  • Selling climax volume
  • Lateral range after decline
  • Volume picking up em mini-rallies
  • Small caps starting to outperform
  • Contrarian indicators extreme

Trading approach:

  • Prepare entry list
  • Watch for spring/shakeout
  • Monitor OB formation
  • Enter cautiously after BOS bullish
  • Position for next Expansion

Ciclo Duration

Macro Cycle (Years)

  • Full macro cycle: 4-10 years
  • Expansion: 2-5 years
  • Top: 6-12 months
  • Contraction: 1-3 years
  • Bottom: 6-18 months

Meso Cycle (Months)

  • Within macro, meso cycles de 2-6 months
  • Each meso has mini four phases
  • Useful para swing trading timing

Micro Cycle (Days-Weeks)

  • Within meso, micro cycles de 5-20 days
  • Most visible intradiário
  • Useful para day trading timing

Ciclo e Smart Money

Smart money operates contra o ciclo retail:

  • Retail buying (Expansion late/Top) → Smart money selling (Distribution)
  • Retail panic (Contraction) → Smart money accumulating (Bottom)
  • Retail disinterested (Bottom) → Smart money aggressively buying (Accumulation)

Esta inverse relationship é porque smart money profits consistently — they buy when retail won’t e sell when retail can’t resist buying.

Ciclo no B3

Historic Macro Cycles

  • 2003-2007: Expansion — IBOV de 10K → 70K
  • 2008: Topo → Contração — IBOV -60%
  • 2009-2010: Fundo → Recovery
  • 2011-2014: Expansion — commodity boom
  • 2015-2016: Contração — political crisis
  • 2017-2019: Expansion — reform optimism
  • 2020: Contração → Fundo (Covid)
  • 2020-2021: Expansion — stimulus bull
  • 2022: Topo → Contração — global recession
  • 2023-2025: Fundo → Expansion?

Commodity Cycle e B3

Brazil é commodity-dependent → B3 cycle amplifica commodity global cycle:

  • Commodity boom → IBOV Expansion amplified
  • Commodity bust → IBOV Contraction amplified
  • Vale, Petro cycle = Brazil macro cycle driver

Conclusão

Ciclo de Mercado é universal — não é opinion, é observation. Todo market passes through Expansion, Topo, Contração e Fundo, repetidamente. Saber where we are no ciclo redefine toda estratégia: buy pullbacks em Expansion, sell rallies em Contração, prepare para next phase em Fundo. Para investidores brasileiros, esta framework elimina guesswork — não perguntar “what will market do?”, perguntar “what phase are we in?” e act accordingly.
